What is a good mountain bike frame size for a small woman?

What is the average frame size for a woman. I need a bike for my girlfriend who is 5′3. Is a 19" frame to big?

yes the 19" is way too big. i’m 5′3" and ride a 13" jamis dakar (full suspension bike). i can be seated and still have my feet on the ground. also i have tons of clearance when I’m standing over the bike. both these things are very important when sizing a bike. i also fit on the 15" bike but the 13" is perfect.

i’m not sure but if i had to guess i would say the avg. bike size for a woman is between a small and med (13"-17") the latter being for a taller woman. but i think your girlfriend would be around the same size bike at me between 13 & 15"

good luck and happy trails.

Will the frame of a Trek 3900 mountain bike take a rear disc/caliper assembley?

Some technical advise would be much appreciated!

If there’s a couple of threaded screw holes on the left hand seat-stay [just above the rear hub] running parallel to the axel then yes…
But you’ll also need your hubs to be disc specific, on the left hand side of the hubs should be six holes running around the outside of hub, just where spokes meet, if not you need some new wheels so you can run them….
If you were considering cable discs then i wouldn’t bother as there no more powerful than v-brakes.so stick with hydraulic units….
If your frame is not disc specific, then a German company called Magura do hydraulic rim brakes….
The site I got my hydraulic discs from do wheel and disc packages ready to fit, and it’ll be harder to find cheaper@ merlincycles.co.uk… Also try:
chainreactioncycles.com
evanscycles.com
Good luck, and hope you under stand, as its hard to explain in an answer…..

Where can I buy a replacement rear wheel for my Giant Rock Mountain bike?

Hi, I have a Giant ‘Rock’ front suspension mountain bile that I bought in 2005. Over the years the rear wheel/cog has began to slip and can’t spin without the pedals going. I’m not sure what the frame size is but I am 6′2" and its the biggest one I could buy. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can et a replacement.

sounds like a job for the bike shop, freewheel has packed up and needs replacing, but, if the teeth are badly worn, then the chain and the chainset could also need changing, depending on the quality of the components, could cost upwards of £75

What size mountain bike frame do i need?

Im about 5′ 10.5", but have longer legs compared to the average person (but not massive!) Looking at buying a downhill mountain bike but not sure what size frame to get?

Not sure about the longer legs, but assume that you probably want a medium frame – 18 or 19".

How to size your frame. Stand over your mountain bike with your feet about a foot apart. The frame should be about 2" – 4" clear of your family jewels. If the frame is too big you will bash your nads on the top bar.

Extend your saddle so that, with your heal on the peddle your leg is fully extended. This means that when riding on the balls of your feet your leg will be slightly bent. If your saddle is right down on its lowest point, or only two or three inches above, your frame is too big. You want the seat post to have about a foot in height so that it adds to the bike suspension by flexing. If, however, your leg is slightly bent and the seat post is beyond the safety markings on the tube, the frame is too small and you should look at the next size up.

Finally, lean over and grab the bars. If you feel too stretched and uncomfortable, then the bike style is probably wrong for you. Different manufacturers have different geometry. Try out a few until you find a comfortable set up.

Luck
